Is the Fairphone (Gen. 6+) right for you?
The Fairphone Gen. 6+ is for someone who plans to replace a worn battery or broken module instead of replacing the whole phone. Its removable 4415 mAh battery, manufacturer-sold spare parts, and microSD slot change that ownership decision more than its Snapdragon 7s Gen 4 processor does. Every verified edition pairs 12 GB RAM with 256 GB storage, so there is no higher internal-storage tier to pay for.
The Galaxy A57 5G is a useful alternative if your priority is water protection or a thinner body: it has IP68 protection, versus the Fairphone’s IP55, and measures 6.9 mm thick versus 9.6 mm. Fairphone instead offers a smaller 6.31-inch display and storage expansion up to 2 TB. Neither a larger battery capacity nor a higher refresh rate establishes better battery life; choose based on the features you need rather than treating those numbers as a result.
Its 50 MP main and 13 MP ultra-wide cameras cover two perspectives, but there is no dedicated telephoto. Consider the Galaxy S26 FE if optical zoom and wireless charging matter more than user-replaceable parts. US buyers also need to check their network before comparing prices: Fairphone supports AT&T and T-Mobile BYOD, with MVNO caveats, and excludes Verizon. A European SKU is not a substitute for that US compatibility check.
Fairphone advertises software support through 2033. Its Android store pages agree on six major upgrades but differ on whether their upgrade period ends in 2032 or 2033; no exact calendar end date is recorded here. The European /e/OS edition is a separate software choice, and its page repeats Android and Google-app wording that does not clearly establish a Murena-specific upgrade promise. Confirm that policy before choosing /e/OS for long-term support.
A good fit if
- You want to replace the battery yourself and buy replacement modules directly from the manufacturer.
- You keep large local media libraries and want microSD expansion rather than a more expensive internal-storage tier.
- You want a smaller screen than the Galaxy A57 5G and accept a thicker body and IP55 protection.
Look elsewhere if
- Choose the Galaxy A57 5G if IP68 immersion protection and a thinner body are higher priorities.
- Consider the Galaxy S26 FE if you need a dedicated telephoto camera or wireless charging.
- Use a phone your carrier supports if you rely on Verizon or a Verizon-network MVNO in the US.
Which configuration to choose
All verified Gen. 6+ versions have 12 GB RAM and 256 GB storage in Cobalt Blue, Forest Green, or Horizon Black. The identifiers listed here are the manufacturer’s color-specific regional SKUs: F6FPHN-3…-EU1 for European Android stock, F6FPHN-3…-US1 for US Android stock, and MU-F6FPHN-3…-EU1 for the European /e/OS editions. Choose the intended sales region and operating system first; color does not change the recorded specifications. The US Android store lists $649.99 as a checked store price. European Android and /e/OS editions have separate regional pricing; they do not establish US prices for those editions. Buy /e/OS only after checking the apps you depend on and Murena’s support terms. In the US, check AT&T or T-Mobile activation and SIM restrictions before ordering; Verizon is unsupported. The older Gen. 6 was announced separately and has different processor and RAM specifications, so do not confuse it with the Gen. 6+.
