Is the Galaxy Z Flip8 right for you?
The Galaxy Z Flip8 is Samsung's 2026 clamshell foldable, for people who want a large-screen phone that folds in half to fit small pockets and bags. Open, it is a 6.9-inch 1080 x 2520 Dynamic AMOLED 2X phone at up to 120 Hz; folded, it measures 75.4 x 85.7 x 13.1 mm, and the 4.1-inch cover screen shows notifications, widgets, and shortcuts without opening it.
At 180 g it is the lightest foldable in this index, and its $1,199.99 US launch price sits between the Pixel 11 Pro ($1,099) and the Galaxy S26 Ultra ($1,299.99). The folding design costs hardware: an Exynos 2600, 12 GB of RAM, a 50 MP main camera with a 12 MP ultra-wide and no telephoto, the smallest battery here at 4,300 mAh, and 25W wired charging. The Galaxy S26 FE, which launched at $699.99, has a 4,900 mAh battery and 45W charging.
Like the Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra, it is rated IP48 rather than IP68, and Samsung advises against beach or pool use. Software support is also less clearly stated than on the S26 FE: Samsung's US product page advertises "up to 7x OS upgrades and security updates" without giving a period, and the launch release states no commitment.
A good fit if
- You want a big screen that folds in half for small pockets and bags.
- You want the lightest foldable in this index: 180 g, per Samsung.
- You often check messages, widgets, or music without opening your phone, using the 4.1-inch cover screen.
Look elsewhere if
- You want a telephoto camera: the Galaxy S26 Ultra and Pixel 11 Pro have one; the Flip8 has only wide and ultra-wide cameras.
- Battery capacity and charging speed matter: the Galaxy S26 FE has 4,900 mAh and 45W charging at a $699.99 US launch price.
- You need full dust protection: the Flip8 is IP48, while the Galaxy S26 series and Pixel 11 Pro are IP68.
Which configuration to choose
Every model has 12 GB of RAM, so the choice is 256 GB or 512 GB of storage, then region and color. The US launch price was $1,199.99 for 256 GB. Buy the model made for your region: SM-F776B internationally, SM-F776U1 unlocked or SM-F776U from carriers in the United States, SM-F776W in Canada, SM-F7760 in Hong Kong and Taiwan, and the SIM-free or carrier models in Japan, where the Rakuten Mobile and SoftBank versions come in 256 GB only. Mint is a Samsung.com exclusive and is not sold by US or Japanese carriers.
