Is the Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra right for you?
The Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra is a phone that becomes a small tablet. Closed, its 6.5-inch cover screen works like a regular phone; open, the 8.0-inch main display gives you room for two apps side by side, documents, or video. It is the most expensive device in this index, with a US launch price of $2,099.99.
Samsung brought the camera closer to its slab flagships: a 200 MP main camera with optical image stabilization, a 50 MP ultra-wide, and a 3x optical telephoto. It lacks the 5x telephoto of the Galaxy S26 Ultra and Pixel 11 Pro. Its 5,000 mAh battery matches the S26 Ultra, and Samsung quotes up to 67% in about 30 minutes with a 45W adapter sold separately.
Two limits matter before buying. It is rated IP48 rather than IP68, and Samsung advises against beach or pool use, so it is less protected against dust than the non-folding phones here; the Galaxy Z Fold8 and Z Flip8 share the same IP48 rating. Samsung's launch materials also do not state an update commitment for it.
A good fit if
- You regularly read, edit documents, or multitask on your phone and want a larger screen without carrying a tablet.
- You want a foldable with a 200 MP main camera and a 3x telephoto.
- Weight matters: at 215 g it is almost the same as the 214 g Galaxy S26 Ultra.
Look elsewhere if
- You work outdoors, at the beach, or in dusty places: the IP68 Galaxy S26 Ultra and Pixel 11 Pro are better protected.
- You want a stated update commitment at launch.
- Your budget is closer to a regular flagship: the Galaxy S26 Ultra launched at $1,299.99 and the Pixel 11 Pro at $1,099.
Which configuration to choose
As with the Galaxy S26 Ultra, the 256 GB and 512 GB models both have 12 GB of RAM, and only the 1 TB model moves to 16 GB. Since the price gap between configurations is large on a foldable, choose storage by what you will actually keep on the device; the 256 GB model suits most people who stream media rather than store it.
