How to choose earbuds for an Android phone

  1. 01

Check which features need a specific phone

Some codecs, hi-res audio modes, and gestures only work with the same brand of phone. On other Android phones you get the standard features.

  2. 02

Compare codecs you can actually use

AAC, SBC, and LC3 work widely; brand codecs need a matching phone. LC3 and Auracast matter for newer Bluetooth LE Audio devices.

  3. 03

Read battery life with its conditions

Makers quote hours with noise cancellation on or off and with their own phones. Compare figures measured under the same conditions.

  4. 04

Choose water resistance for your routine

An IP rating describes tested dust and water resistance. Check the manufacturer’s care instructions for sweat, workouts, and water exposure; a higher rating does not by itself establish suitability for those uses.
