What would a new tablet fix?

If your Galaxy Tab S11 Ultra still handles your notes, documents, and apps, start by keeping it. The S12 Ultra has a newer processor, but Samsung lists the same 14.6-inch screen, 11,600 mAh battery, 45W charging, and maximum 1 TB storage across both Ultra generations (Samsung’s comparison).

For an 11-inch Tab S11 owner, the S12+ changes something more obvious: screen size. It moves to 12.6 inches. Samsung’s new lineup contains S12+ and S12 Ultra, with no regular S12, so there isn’t a direct same-size replacement for the smaller S11 (S12 announcement).

This guide is for S11 owners weighing those two upgrades. Prices are historical US starting prices; your trade-in offer and local store prices will decide the actual cost. The hero shows the predecessor S11 Ultra.

S11 Ultra to S12 Ultra: more processing power, the same screen size

The processor changes from Dimensity 9400+ to Dimensity 9500 (S11 specifications; S12 specifications). Before spending money on that change, identify what slows you down now.

Is an export taking too long? Does an app lack a tool you need? Is the tablet full? Those problems need different solutions. A newer chip won’t add a desktop-only feature to an Android app, and a new 256 GB tablet won’t give you more internal space than the 1 TB model you already own.

These shared figures come from Samsung’s generation comparison. They don’t rule out other improvements, but they help you avoid paying for a change that doesn’t address your problem.

S11 to S12+: would you welcome the extra size?

The S12+ Wi-Fi model weighs 553 g, compared with 469 g for the S11. That’s 84 g more, before adding a case or keyboard (S12 table; S11 table).

The larger screen may appeal if you keep a reference document beside handwritten notes. Think about the other half of that purchase, too: holding it while reading, fitting it in your bag, and carrying the accessories. If the S11 already feels cumbersome, moving up in size is worth reconsidering.

S12+ starts at 256 GB and has 12 GB RAM at both storage tiers. That is more internal storage than a 128 GB S11, but it isn’t a RAM increase over the catalog’s S11 configurations. A 512 GB S11 owner should compare the exact replacement capacity (S12 memory options).

Check the apps before paying for the hardware

S12 launches with Android 17 and One UI 9. Samsung states up to seven OS upgrades and security updates, with timing and availability varying by model and market; the release doesn’t give a dated security-support end (support wording). Check your S11’s installed software rather than judging it only by the version it launched with.

Samsung also promotes Photoshop and other app offers. Its US launch notice says availability varies by region and third-party offers have separate subscription terms. Look up the mobile tools and recurring price you need. A trial should still make sense after it expires.

Work out your upgrade cost

S12+ and S12 Ultra became available in the US on October 7, 2026, starting at $1,199.99 and $1,399.99. S11 and S11 Ultra started at $799.99 and $1,199.99 in 2025 (S12 US launch; S11 US launch). The S11 starts at 128 GB; the other three start at 256 GB.

Use today’s quote for the storage and connectivity you want. Add tax, accessories, and app costs, then subtract the trade-in amount actually offered for your tablet’s condition. Outside the US, use the local store and currency; cellular configurations differ by market (global lineup).
